Opportunities
As a member of the Center for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER), we have a mandate to focus research on Newfoundland and Labrador fisheries sustainability, offer research and training opportunities to graduate students, and collaborate on research projects both locally and globally. The CFER has been identified within Memorial University’s ‘league of extraordinary researchers’ for the at-sea and industry-relevant research training opportunities that we provide to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
As a cross-appointed Member of the Department of Biology, Jon supervises most students through MSc and PhD programs in that department. He is always interested in discussing new opportunities to fulfil these research and teaching goals.
Providing research support to junior scientists provides opportunities for outreach. For example, the image below shows a high school student group’s research poster based on samples collected by the CFER aboard the RV Celtic Explorer:
